Narrator:
Out on an island in the pristine waters of the Pacific North-West sits a thirty-million-dollar sea farm. Not just any ordinary sea farm challenging the environment, one that actually gives back.
Daughter:
“One of the thing that’s always been extremely important to my dad has been the environment, what is incredible about this process is that we bring in a small, a very small amount of sea water into the facility to recreate the spring bloom on land, and in order to get the amount of microalgae that we are growing on land that we, would have had to bring in a massive amount and deplete the ocean of a very viable foods source. Whereas the water that’s leaving our facility actually contains more phytoplankton, that is going directly back out into the ocean than what was originally brought in and he is providing, even a larger source of microalgae back to Mother Nature and that is beautiful.
Narrator:
In the age of World Wide Web, cloning and moon walkers, now we can naturally grow and harvest phytoplankton.
Harper:
“I built on this site a large Shellfish Hatchery that is one of the largest in the world. And in order to proceed with producing the amount of seed that we require, I got into the business of growing algae. I did come up with, a method that I can grow any quanlity, any amount at any time of these algae both out doors as well as in doors.”
Dr. Rowan Haigh
His process has developed a unique, the big difficulty is how do you harvest something these single cell photosynthetic organisms are like tiny little one cell plants floating around in the water.
I mean how do you get them out of the water into a product and his developed process where it’s a very quick and easy way of extracting all the nutrients from these cells.
Narrator:
Phyto meaning light, plankton meaning floating or suspended. It is the base of life source as we know it. According to NASA, it is responsible for up to 90% of oxygen in our atmosphere. With thousands of single cell microscopic plants in the ocean, it has eluded man, until now.
Harper:
I am just grateful that I was chosen to find this product, because of being very elusive, it’s eluded man until now and here we have it and I am going to help as many people as we can I hope.
Narrator:
Throughout history, necessity continues to be the mother of all invention.
Daughter:
He was creating phytoplankton to feed the shellfish, and as the business grew, his health started to deteriorate and I used to think that he was maybe over worked or you know tired and he ended up getting diagnosed with a pretty serious illness about a year ago.
Harper:
They had diagnosed me as like a quite serious cancer, in fact a very serious cancer, it’s called mesothelioma and there are only about 2000 cases a year in North America and nobody survives.
With just 9 weeks to a few months to live, Mr. Harper did the unimaginable.
Daughter:
I was not expecting what I heard. They basically gave him 9 weeks to 9 months to live
Harper:
Well, it is a pretty big blow, so try to get my affairs in order, which had to be done, within, you know, just basically settle down, for me to start slowly, you know, dying.
Daughter:
I had go down and pick out his grave plot and that was really, just a very horrible raw vulnerable time while all is happening, getting ready for his surgery, we’d already been giving him a hard time because he had been eating phytoplankton out of the tanks at work and I was actually getting pretty upset with him about doing that, because it’s for whales, it’s for oyster, it’s for fish, it’s for krill; and I said are you crazy!! You know he was literally sticking his finger into tanks, eating the stuff raw.
Harper:
I started on the daily routine, I was just taking a little bit paste, putting it into my mouth, and washed it down with a drink of water, and go about my daily business of what I could do and within about10 to 15 days, here I am starting to have less pain in my back, I knew that something was going on, so I just kept eating, half a tea spoon of this paste a day. I was booked to go for the surgery, Victoria were they were going to do what they call a taupic treatment, They take a medicine, introduce, between your lungs and plural lining and keeping in the hospital for a few days, and that there causes your lungs to fuse together and stop you from drowning in your own fluids that have built up.
Daughter:
The head surgeon came out and had a very strange look on his face, I said to my mother, my God, something happened, my dad has died, and I was just shaking and panicking, and then the surgeon came up to me and said that you know, I do not know what is going on here, but there is strange, a white foreign white substance covering your dad’s tumor and his lungs, and we’ve never seen anything like it before.
Harper:
Well low and behold: they went in there to have a look, saw something you’ve never seen before, checked 11 sites, sent them away for a biopsy, and I got the news back, there was no everything is benign, they just did not know what to make of it.
Everything is absolutely clean, well the surgeons were saying they do not know what I had, they do not know if what I created, and am taking had any effect on the cancer, all they can tell me is they had never seen, what they saw inside me that I attribute this to my algae. I fully believe with all my heart that.
I do moderate exercise every day, I watch what I eat, I lead a very normal life. As a bonus, I’ve lost weight, more than I try dieting all my life. Cause I am diabetic, or I was diabetic, if it’s a coincidence or not I do not know, but anyway, my blood sugar started dropping, my weight, started falling off, and I ended up by probably within about 6 months’ period, here I am no longer require insulin, and I was taking 88 units a day of insulin. And I now can eat just about what I want in moderation, and I have no elevated sugar levels, and I feel fabulous.
Narrator:
The potential benefits for outweigh the pain-staking process to create even a tea spoon, of a concentrate finished product.
Harper:
Well, we can do in the neighborhood in the winter months about 25 ton of products. Summer months about 45 metric tons a day, and just as an example, these tanks beside me here, it would require ten of these tanks of algae to give me one of these which is a 8oz containers, so if you look at that, think about magnitude of growing the equivalent of 45 metric tons a day, as a quite remarkable fee because billions upon billions just need 3 tanks, and we can grow them in a one million litre tank, so, and that is what we get 25 to 40 ton a day from.
Narrator:
With 8-million-litre tanks, using natures’ elements, Mother Nature’s kitchen, has a capacity to nourish the world. It is both the nutritional analysis second to none including pigments diatoms and xanthophylls.
Dr. Rowan Haigh:
You know in spring, in the Northern Hemisphere when the light conditions are right, and the nutrient conditions are right, this spring bloom you get a hundreds diatoms species blooming producing pigments, they are producing this compliments, of amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins. The thing is working in the product just probably the pigments, called the xanthophylls. In phytoplankton, there are two xanthophylls I can think of off hand, that potentially have great benefits, they are Fucoxanthin and diadinoxanthin.
Narrator:
With this scientific breakthrough, it is no wonder experts from all over the world are clamoring to get the hands on phytoplankton.
Daughter:
We had calls from Asia, we had calls from the UK, we had calls from many many from the States all over Canada. People heard about this, whether it’s been through word mouth, through any articles that have been written in the newspaper, but this is a product, that is in such huge demand, and it is very very interesting we are getting phone calls from people within the medical system, or within the holistic healing, people that are really taking a stand around their health. They are looking for something.
Harper:
The world really is coming to our door, requesting, you know, the products, they are hearing from their friend’s, they are hearing from this that it is helping them in almost every aspect of their life
Daughter:
You know he is very protective of this product, he just does not trust it that anybody, and something that he holds very very near and dear to his heart, as does the entire family.
Narrator:
Even through such demand, those who partake this precious product are embracing health, in the way like never before.
Dr Bob Rowe:
A really good friend, Andy, has this problem with dandruff and we tried everything with, you know, nutritional approaches, we’ve tried emotional approaches, and we tried just about anything you could think of. He came to my office one day, he literally bent over and did this (rubbed his hair). He does that and I’m looking and it is nothing. I could not believe it but he said I like this stuff. And it turned out to be, the plankton, the phytoplankton and I said what did you do it, put it on your head? No, I just took internally. How long have you been doing this, and it was not even a week, it was completely gone and when I saw that, I mean, light went off all over the place.Wow, for that to happen to have an internal and for it to have that kind of effect on an external problem like that it means that it had to do something amazing, internally.
Narrator:
Tasting each batch to ensure the quality control come first and the conclusion of each batch.
Dr. Rowan Haigh:
We test each batch, and it is always concerning that some conditions have gone wrong, you have to make sure that all species are benign.
Whether it will be your health, energy, PH or just life force, like phytoplankton works with your body, the way it works with mother earth.
Dr Bob Rowe:
The thing with phytoplankton was it had such amazing result. I had to go to the books to find out what is happening, so first thing I looked at was most people, well, everybody had these amazing changes with their muscular systems. So if you go down to the cellular level, what part of the cell actually has effect on sugar level? Well, if you look at the cell there is a part of the cell called the mitochondria and I think, I can’t prove this, but it is logical, the common sense thing says that, insulin resistant it because the cell can’t handle the sugar anymore and it says no more. So, insulin the hormone that pushes the sugar into the cell, all of the sudden, the cell has not having that anymore, because if it keeps going, it’s going to completely damage the energy producer, in the cell called the mitochondria if it does that, the cell is dead, because 90% of all the functions in that cell rely on the mitochondria to produce and energy molecule called ATP, without that energy molecule 90% of the function in that cell cannot happen, so when I looked at it, it made a lot of sense, then I look further, what’s really interesting is a lot of common diseases we’re having today, what are they finding? They are finding damage to cell the mitochondria at the cellular level whether it is heart disease whether it’s fibromyalgia, whether it is chronic fatigue, any muscular related disease they are finding the exact same thing, phytoplankton is such a complete nutrients and when I look at a complete nutrients as closely as possible, as I look for as close to nature as possible and in all the indigenous people of the world reason they are so healthy, and all of the studies show they have better complexions, better teeth, do not have dental care, the teeths are okay, their healthy and they live long life, is because they eat very close to nature,so, the closer to nature you can get, the better you will survive, because the better nutrients can be transferred to your cells.
Narrator:
Mr. Harper continues to be acknowledged for inventing this one of the kind processes while staying true to his vision and purpose.
Daughter:
As a family, we are working really hard, not to allow a lot of false hype, a lot of media hype to interfere with the integrity of this product; the intent is to share this with people from a place of authenticity and truth.
Narrator:
As for The Harper Family, discovering how fragile life truly is, everyday is a gift, they are just thankful to have another day!
Thankfully he was insightfully enough to see that this need to stick around, that you need stick that finger in that tank of algae and starting eating it, and I to this day, I am floored, that he trusted himself enough, especially when his body was that worn down, and he was that sick, he still had that enough intuition and that for gut feeling and connection, it is heart to truly go with his instinct, and his instinct was, to stick hisfinger in that tub of phytoplankton, and eat it.
